As many of our loyal readers know, we went to Mexico (Part 1 & 2) this past August. Along for the trip we brought our then 10 month old daughter, Sarah. We didn't have grandparents, friends, or another family to split childcare with. It was just us 3! And in all honesty, it was a wonderful time. Looking back, one of, if not my favorite weeks of all of 2017.
Below are some tips that I put together for those that are thinking about going to an all-inclusive resort with babies, or have already booked their trip. As Sarah gets older, I hope to create more of these guides. Gratuities are one of the things that often gets overlooked by travelers until they are actually on their trip. Around the world, different countries and cultures have their own customs when leaving gratuities. I think staying at an all-inclusive resort can be confusing for guests. Which is why it is important to understand how much you should plan on bringing before you travel!
We had a quick transfer from the Now Sapphire to the Playacar Palace. Two years ago I visited this small, relaxed resort right in the heart of Playa del Carmen for an afternoon and instantly thought it was wonderful.
When I was booking the resort, I found out that they were closing the week after we'd be there. The whole resort was going to be renovated over the course of three months. Sandy and I both felt like the staff had the feeling of it being the last day of camp. I was lucky to be able to spend a week in Mexico with my wife, Sandy, and daughter, Sarah this past August. We stayed at two separate resorts, the Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun and the Playacar Palace. On top of that, Tropical Storm Franklin came rolling through to keep us on our toes.
Cruise or All-Inclusive? This is an age old question that travel agents get asked all the time. I'm here to not pick a side, but to lay out all the factors you should take into consideration before making a decision.
Before I dig in, understand that these are generalizations. You can always find exceptions. An experienced, local travel agent can help you make sense of which option can be a better fit for your next trip! |
